Talbot Resident Artist Gallery, 41 E. Dover Street, Easton

Located in the heart of downtown Easton, opposite the Avalon Theatre, TRA Gallery provides an exhibit venue and workspace for independent visual artists in Talbot County. Created in a partnership between Talbot Arts and Dock Street Foundation, the initiative provides opportunities for artists who do not currently have representation by a gallery. In addition, TRA Gallery offers the public an intimate and unique opportunity to visit, engage with, and purchase artwork from some of Talbot County’s most promising artists.

The space is available to independent visual artists free of charge for one month for an artist or a group of two to exhibit their work. To apply, artists need to complete an online application available. A committee selected by Talbot Arts and Dock Street will choose the artists. Selected artists must commit to opening the gallery 20 hours a week, maintaining the space, and managing their business transactions. Complete details are listed below.

CRITERIA, APPLICATION PROCESS & TIMELINE

Talbot Arts and Dock Street Foundation invite Talbot County residents who are independent visual artists not currently represented by a gallery to apply for a one-month artist in residency opportunity at the TRA Gallery, 41 East Dover Street in Easton. Artists will work entirely independently in the gallery space, installing their work, staffing the gallery during open hours, handling sales, de-installing their work and returning the space to its original condition.

Artists are invited to submit imaginative, traditional, and experimental works in any visual art medium.

Criteria:

TRA Gallery receives more applications than can be accommodated by the space available. The gallery retains the right to accept or reject applications, and to suggest changes. In making the final decision, the gallery is guided by our commitment to all independent Talbot County resident visual artists (TRA) who represent the diverse and multicultural nature of Talbot County.  A wide variety of visual arts mediums are encouraged.

·      Work should be ready to hang or install.

·      Work should be properly framed, or gallery wrapped, all edges should be finished and ready for display.

·      Fragile surfaces such as pastel must be protected.

·      The artist is responsible for de-installing their work and returning the space to its original condition.

·      There is limited space for three-dimensional work.

·      Artwork must be available for the duration of the exhibition.

·      Subject matter must be appropriate for viewing by all ages.

Appeals Process:

·       TRA Gallery takes great care during the application review process to ensure fair and equitable opportunity for gallery space on stated criteria. Therefore, dissatisfaction with the outcome is not a sufficient reason for an appeal. However, an application may be reconsidered if a procedural impropriety or error has affected its review.
